In the Gospel according to St. John (John 1:39), when people were wondering if Jesus was someone who could help lead them to God, Jesus responded “Come and see.”
RCIA – the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - is the process in the Catholic Church that invites adults such as those described above, to explore what it means to be Catholic.
Through prayer, instruction, discussion, reflection and special rites celebrated within our parish community, adults learn what the basics are of the teachings of the Catholic Church, and what its traditions and experiences are like. With this as a foundation, participants are given the opportunity to reflect on their relationship with God, and how the Catholic faith may be able to help them deepen this relationship in ways both personal and in the context of the parish community.
The RCIA journey begins in October (dates and times are yet to be determined).
One of the candidates recently welcomed into the Church through the RCIA process wrote the following in response to a question of what they would tell someone else about participating in RCIA:
“When compared with other commitments made in your lifetime, this is an up-lifting and meaningful journey… one of the most enjoyable adult experiences you can take part in… It is an amazing welcome into your church/faith!”
